Abstract: The present study aims to investigate the possible effect of statin use on the occurrence of PVR-related retinal detachment in patients with a previous history of successful reattachment surgery referred to the ophthalmology clinic of Rasoul-Akram Hospital.
Methods: This randomized controlled trial investigated 103 patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Following successful reattachment surgery, the patients were divided into two groups: statin users and non-statin users, undergoing regular follow-up for the study.
Results: Statin usage in 96.2% of patients was linked to the absence of PVR progression, while only 3.8% of patients experienced PVR despite statin use. Absence of statin use showed no PVR progression in 78% of patients and PVR occurred in 22% of cases where statins were not used.
Conclusion: Lipophilic statins have demonstrated benefits for perioperative, and postoperative use in patients with retinal detachment in preventing PVR-related redetachment
